It’s one of the only reasonable answers.
Everyone is saying movies that aren’t actually trilogies (lotr and Star Wars both had prequels and Star Wars had sequels too, and they were terrible. They brought down the quality of the franchises but that doesn’t matter. They’re simply not trilogies).

They’re simply not trilogies
that's being obtuse. What matters is the sense of unity. You can clearly distinguish trilogies inside star wars or lotr

You are right in that the Star Wars prequels and the hobbit films feel disjointed and bloated compared to the original movies. That said, I really feel franchise bloat matters. They kept trying to milk the franchises. They are not trilogies, they are franchises. They are not works in isolation like the Nolan Batman films or Back to the Future.
The filmmakers chose to bloat those franchises. They would’ve been great as trilogies, instead they’re what they are.

to me it's like saying "they're not movies, they're franchise" and exclude them from best movie discussions etc
they're both

They’re all the same story, both the hobbit films and the Star Wars prequels lead directly into the original trilogies and follow the same story.
I don’t feel I’m being unfair. The bloat changed my perception of the franchises. When I hear Star Wars now I don’t even think of the original trilogy, do you? I think of all the bloat.
I don’t see how we can’t judge parts of a franchise based off the franchise as a whole.

Yess I was looking for this comment those 3 are so good of movies I just re watched them like two weeks ago they are just one of the best trilogies in my books
But I guess 3 was a little bit not as good as the first two but it was still like a 8/10

Sorry. BTTF 2 & 3 are really dumb. Thrown together last minute stupid sequels to make a buck.

Lol. No it’s not. Forget Back to the future one exists and watch the other two on their own as if they were just their own movies. They are not good at all.

Disagree. They’re both great.

It’s the most obvious script ever if you were doing a sequel. The DeLorean flies, instead of a skateboard it’s a hover board. The Cubs win the World Series. There’s a jaws part 32. His son is a dork like his dad was. Casting a different actress as Jennifer, and then doc zaps her unconscious and leaves her in an alley because they couldn’t fit her into the script? It’s so absurd. Of course Biff gets incredibly rich because of a sports almanac. Even the acting they are doing like caricatures of what they did in part one. Part two and three are definitely fun movies… But they are very much slapped together movies to make a buck. Part one is a masterpiece and part of cinematic history.

The thirds ending fell off a little bit to me, I didn’t like the train Time Machine. Wish there was more screen time of Einstein tho

First two, yes.
I don't care much for the last one. Didn't really catch me the same way the first two did. Especially the second one.
