Pro tip, use insults that don't apply more to yourself than the person you're tossing them toward.

It doesn't have to be financial support.

It can be ending your personal interest in an artist, in a vacuum, and nobody ever knows about it.

It still carries meaning to the person rejecting that artist.

This notion is widespread enough that it has an axiom: "separate the art from the artist".

The respondent is saying fuck that noise.

And I'm in agreement. When you support art you're supporting an artist, and that's risky. Especially when that artist might be a gremlin anthropomorphic hunk of walking garbage.

See also Aaron Lewis.

Maybe when politics weren't as stark in contrast as they are today.

Voting with your dollar is still a thing, and supporting artists who are enablers of rat bastard politics is a no go.

Especially with the younger generations today. They won't fucking stand for it, and I love it.

OP are you really young?

Complaints about this miniscule of a thing, on top of you failing to show up on time and leaving your peers with extra work because of your huffy no show, are the kinds of things that will continue to turn this sub into a laughing stock.

Yeah... You always get thrown curve balls in the software that has to power business, of course.. but you deploy certain strategies to mitigate risk.

One really dangerous area where you need to get it as close to right as possible early on, is when you have a public-facing interface that is going to be depended upon by clients or external partners that you do not control. Churn that affects external entities is high risk because of your inability to iterate safely, losing control over the versions you have to support, complexity gets worse due to permutations of internal versions interacting with external versions, ugh. Nightmares ensue.

but in almost all other areas, when you get surprised by requirements that make you pivot or substantially refactor, having good instincts, and lots of experience-- for knowing what to modularize and where--can make these pivots easy to manage, and even raise the quality bar and pay down tech debt in the process.

All of the above would apply equally whether you're project planning using waterfall or Agile.

This is indeed a misunderstanding of Agile.

Nothing in the Agile methodology dictates specifics around how much design and forethought you apply to your iterations. You choose that yourself. As you said, Agile is attacking the project management problem, not the software design problem.

You cannot design a complex system in two-week increments of its component parts. That's ridiculous.

You seem to have blended the YAGNI principle (You Aren't Gonna Need It) into your intuition about what Agile is. YAGNI is simply a way for you to give yourself a critical thinking challenge: am I over-designing something before I really understand the requirements? Do I know this is a critical aspect of the needed system, or am I trying too hard to anticipate the unknown?

Even in YAGNI scenarios, there is value in carefully considering the parts of your design that will be rigid, the parts that will be flexible, and whether you are building flexibility in the correct places. You learn an intuition for this over time, and you cannot become good at it unless you try a lot, fail a lot, and pay attention to the lessons that the failures teach you.

Don't blame Agile. Have a plan for the whole system, a high level design that runs tip-to-tail. Then, build out low level designs in more granular chunks.

Don't pay attention to Sprint lengths when you're doing design. First you have to break your design into tasks. Only when you have tasks planned out should you be considering anything to do with sprints.
